Step 1: Launch CloudFormation Template

We've generated a CloudFormation template that creates a read-only IAM role in your AWS account. Click the button below to open it directly in the AWS CloudFormation console with all settings pre-filled.

Check the account number in the top-right corner of the AWS Console. If it doesn't match, sign out and log in as an admin to account 123456789012.

Step 2: Confirm the Stack is Deployed

If you used the "Launch in CloudFormation" button, the stack should be creating now. Wait for it to show CREATE_COMPLETE in the AWS console.

If you haven't deployed yet, go back to Step 1 and click "Launch in AWS CloudFormation Console". The template and all parameters are pre-filled — just check the IAM acknowledgment box and click "Submit".

Once the stack shows CREATE_COMPLETE, click "Next" to test the connection.

Step 3: Enable Hourly Cost Data

For real-time cost monitoring, enable hourly granularity in Cost Explorer. This lets SlashMyBill detect cost spikes within hours instead of days.

What it does: Enables hourly cost breakdown in AWS Cost Explorer

Cost: ~$0.01 per 1,000 API requests (typically <$1/month)

Time to activate: 24 hours after enabling

Check "Hourly and Resource Level Data" and click Save. You can also skip this and enable later.

Step 4: Test & Configure

Verify the connection and optionally enable hourly cost tracking for real-time insights.

This will attempt to assume the IAM role and read your Cost Explorer data.
